Early Life and Family
Essex Rich was the youngest daughter of Robert Rich, 3rd Earl of Warwick. Her mother was Anne Cheeke. Essex was named after her grandmother, who was also connected to the Rich family. After her mother passed away, Essex and her sisters went to live with their uncle. Their uncle was Charles Rich, 4th Earl of Warwick. He helped raise them in his home.
Marriage and Children
Many important young men were suggested as husbands for Lady Essex Rich. These included the son of Baron Berkeley of Stratton and Thomas Vane. However, on June 16, 1674, she married Daniel Finch. Their wedding took place at Leez Priory, a historic building near Felsted. After their marriage, the couple moved in with Daniel's parents. They lived at Kensington Palace, a famous royal residence.
Essex and Daniel had eight children together. Sadly, only one of their children lived to become an adult.
