A Difficult Time in History
Estella Agsteribbe, along with several other members of her team, faced a very difficult time in history. These teammates included Lea Nordheim, Ans Polak, Judikje Simons, and Elka de Levie. Their coach, Gerrit Kleerekoper, was also affected.
During World War II, Estella and her family were Jewish. Many Jewish people in Europe were targeted during this time. Estella, her husband Samuel Blits, their six-year-old daughter Nanny, and their two-year-old son Alfred were taken from their home. They were sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Sadly, Estella and her family died there in 1943. Their story is a reminder of the terrible events of the Holocaust.
