Etta McDaniel (born December 1, 1890 – died January 13, 1946) was an American actress. She appeared in more than 60 movies from 1933 to 1946. Etta was the sister of actor Sam McDaniel and the famous actress Hattie McDaniel. Hattie won an Academy Award for her acting.

Etta's Early Life

Etta McDaniel was born in Wichita, Kansas. She started her acting journey in minstrel shows. Many members of her family were also part of these shows. Etta married John Alfred Goff on December 2, 1908, in Denver, Colorado. They had one son named Edgar Henry Goff.

Her Acting Career

In 1914, Etta, known then as Etta Goff, and her sister Hattie McDaniel created their own all-female minstrel show. They called it the McDaniel Sisters Company.

Etta McDaniel's first big movie role was in the 1933 film King Kong. In this movie, she played a native woman who saved her baby from the giant gorilla. After that, she often played supporting roles or was an extra in movies. She frequently played maids and nannies. Many of these roles were not even mentioned in the movie credits. One of her notable roles was in Lawless Nineties in 1936. This was a Western movie that starred John Wayne. Etta McDaniel passed away in Los Angeles, California, when she was 55 years old.
