Eugene Donald Bookhammer (June 14, 1918 – February 23, 2013) was an important American politician. He came from Lewes, Delaware. He served as the 18th Lieutenant Governor of Delaware.

He was a member of the Republican Party. He held this office from 1969 to 1977. During this time, he worked with two governors: Russell W. Peterson and Sherman W. Tribbitt. Before becoming Lieutenant Governor, he was a member of the Delaware State Senate starting in 1962.

Eugene Bookhammer was born in Lewes, Delaware. He grew up there and went to Lewes High School. After finishing school, he joined the United States Army.

He served his country during World War II. His bravery was recognized with two special awards. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. These awards are given to soldiers for their courage and service.

Career and Achievements

After his military service, Eugene Bookhammer became a businessman. He worked in the lumber mill industry. This means he was involved in cutting and preparing wood.

He also had a passion for writing. In 2009, he wrote a book about his life. The book was called Gene Bookhammer and His World. He wrote it with author Richard Carter.
