Eugene Cross Park is a sports ground in Ebbw Vale, Wales. It is mainly used for rugby and cricket games. The park started in November 1919 when a group called the Ebbw Vale Welfare Association bought a piece of land. This land, about 6 acres big, was first known as the Welfare Ground.
In 1973, the name was changed to Eugene Cross Park. This was done to honor Sir Eugene Cross. He was a very important leader of the Welfare Trustees for a long time. The park has areas for fans to stand (terraces) and a main seating area (a stand). This stand was built after a fire destroyed the old one. There is also a clubhouse with a shop for game days and special areas for guests. The stadium is located next to the B4486 road, Newchurch Road, and the Ebbw River.
What Happens at Eugene Cross Park?
Eugene Cross Park is the home ground for two local sports teams:
- Ebbw Vale RFC (a rugby team)
- Ebbw Vale Cricket Club (a cricket team)
The park also hosts games for other teams sometimes. For example, Glamorgan County Cricket Club plays matches there now and then. A few international rugby league games have also been held at the park. For a period, it was also the home of Ebbw Vale F.C., a football club that was part of the League of Wales.
