Eugene Omoruyi's Early Life and Sports Beginnings
Eugene Omoruyi was born in Benin City, Nigeria. When he was just one year old, his family moved to Canada. Growing up, he first loved playing soccer.
He started playing basketball during his second year at Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic High School. Later, he went to Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario. In his final season there, he was amazing. He scored about 17 points and grabbed nearly 10 rebounds per game. This earned him a spot on the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association First Team All-Star list. He even played alongside future NBA stars like Jamal Murray and Thon Maker.
Eugene also played for the Advantage Titans in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) league. For college, he chose to play basketball for Rutgers.

Playing for Rutgers Scarlet Knights
As a freshman at Rutgers, Eugene averaged 2.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. In his second year, he scored a season-high 22 points against Florida State. That season, he averaged 7.9 points and 5 rebounds per game.
For his junior year, Eugene became a co-captain of the team. He worked hard on his shooting, taking 1,000 shots six mornings a week! In November 2018, he had an amazing game against Drexel. He scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. A few days later, he got 20 points and 17 rebounds against Boston University. As a junior, he averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He was also recognized as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention.
Transferring to Oregon Ducks
For his senior season, Eugene decided to transfer to Oregon. Due to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules, he had to sit out one season. This transfer was quite a surprise to many people.
When he finally debuted for Oregon in December 2020, he had a fantastic game. He scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Missouri. As a senior, he averaged 17.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors for his great performance. After this successful season, Eugene decided to enter the 2021 NBA draft.
Eugene Omoruyi's Professional Basketball Career
Starting with the Dallas Mavericks (2021)
Eugene Omoruyi was not chosen in the 2021 NBA draft. However, he still signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks in August 2021. This meant he would split his time between the Mavericks and their G League team, the Texas Legends. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending injury in December while playing for the Legends. The Mavericks then waived him later that month.
Playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2022–2023)
In July 2022, Eugene signed another two-way contract, this time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. His contract was changed to a multi-year deal in February 2023. However, he was waived by the Thunder later that month.
Time with the Detroit Pistons (2023)
Eugene then signed a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons in March 2023. He signed a second 10-day contract, and then a contract for the rest of the season. In June 2023, the Pistons decided to keep him for the next NBA season. But just two days later, they waived him.
With the Washington Wizards and Capital City Go-Go (2023–2024)
In July 2023, Eugene signed a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards. In March 2024, he signed a standard contract with the Wizards. However, he was waived by the Wizards in August 2024. He briefly signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in September but was waived in October.
Joining Raptors 905 (2024–Present)
In November 2024, Eugene Omoruyi joined Raptors 905, which is the G League team for the Toronto Raptors. In January 2025, he signed a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors. He mostly played with Raptors 905 during this time. After his 10-day contract expired, he rejoined Raptors 905.
