Discover Eureka! Science + Discovery
Eureka! Science + Discovery is a special museum designed for young people. It teaches about science and technology in a playful way. You can explore many different exhibits that make learning fun.
What You Can Do at Eureka!
The museum has lots of interactive displays. These exhibits let you touch, play, and experiment. You can learn about how things work in the world around you. It's a great place for families to explore together.
From Spaceport to Science + Discovery
The building where Eureka! Science + Discovery is now used to be a different attraction. It was called Spaceport. Spaceport first opened on July 26, 2005. Merseytravel Chairman Mark Dowd opened it.
Exploring Space at Spaceport
Spaceport was all about learning about space. It had many exhibits where you could learn about planets and stars. A visit usually took about two hours. This included time in the Spacedome planetarium. The planetarium was on the ground floor. Visitors to Spaceport could also take a boat trip on a Mersey Ferry.
Why Spaceport Closed
In July 2019, Merseytravel announced that Spaceport would close. This was because fewer people were visiting. Also, it became too expensive to run. This happened after the government reduced its funding.
The Birth of Eureka! Science + Discovery
After Spaceport closed, plans were made for a new attraction. This new place would be the £14 million "Eureka! Science + Discovery" Centre. Merseytravel still owns the building. However, a new company now runs the attraction. This new company is called Eureka!.
