Eva Chen was born in 1980. She is an American journalist and a popular author of children's books. Eva is well-known for her work at Instagram, where she helps fashion brands connect with people. Before this, she was the editor-in-chief of Lucky magazine. She also worked as the beauty and health director at Teen Vogue.

Early Life and Education
Eva Chen grew up in New York City. Her parents came from Taipei and Shanghai. They owned a business that imported and exported textiles. Eva says her early love for fashion came from her mother.
She went to the Brearley School and then to Johns Hopkins University. At first, she planned to study medicine. However, she later decided to major in English. After college, she earned a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University.
Eva Chen's Career Journey
While in college, Eva interned at the fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar. After graduating from Johns Hopkins in 2001, she worked briefly for a law firm. Soon after, she joined Lucky magazine, which had just started.
Working at Lucky Magazine
At Lucky, Eva began in the credits department. She helped list prices and sellers for products in the magazine. She worked her way up and eventually became the editor-in-chief. She was the youngest editor-in-chief in the magazine's history. Eva also led Lucky Shops, which was the magazine's business side. She was both the editor-in-chief and the chief creative officer.
Moving to Teen Vogue
After Lucky, Eva worked at Elle magazine for three years. She was part of the beauty department there. Later, she became the beauty editor for Teen Vogue.
Joining Instagram
In July 2015, Eva Chen joined Instagram. Instagram is a social media platform owned by Facebook. Her job was to create partnerships with fashion brands. Today, she is the Head of Fashion Partnerships for Instagram. She has helped launch many new features for fashion and shopping on the platform. For example, you can now shop for fashion items directly from influencers' posts. She also helped create the Instagram Shop account.
In May 2020, Eva Chen gave a speech at her old university, Johns Hopkins University, during their graduation ceremony.

Eva Chen is also a successful author of children's books. Her books often focus on important messages for young readers. For example, her book I Am Golden (published in 2022) aims to uplift Asian American children. It teaches them about self-love and feeling good about themselves.
