Evacuation was a cool TV show for kids that aired on CBBC between 2006 and 2008. It was presented by Matt Baker. In the show, twelve kids from all over the United Kingdom got to experience what life was like for children who were evacuated during World War II.

Living Like a Wartime Evacuee

The children in Evacuation lived just like real wartime evacuees. They ate the same kinds of meals people had in the 1940s. They also went to a special school set up like one from that time. The kids even wore clothes and got haircuts that were popular back then. If they misbehaved, they were disciplined in ways common in the 1940s.

At the start of each series, the children had to give up all their modern items. This included things like mobile phones. They got these items back only when the series ended. Each child was given a gas mask and an ID card. They had to carry these with them all the time. The kids also took part in activities from the war. For example, they learned how to build air-raid shelters. Even when the cameras weren't rolling, the adults on the show stayed in character. This helped make the experience feel very real for the children.

Evacuation Journeys

The show had two different series, each with a unique setting for the evacuation.

Series One: The Farm Experience

The first series of Evacuation started on CBBC on BBC One on 4 September 2006. In this series, the children were sent to a made-up place called Castle Farm. Here, they learned what it was like to be evacuated to a traditional farm during wartime.

Series Two: The Manor House Experience

The second series was called Evacuation to the Manor House. It began on CBBC on BBC One on 17 January 2008. For this series, the children were evacuated to a fictional place named Pradoe Hall. This time, they experienced life as evacuees living in a grand 1940s manor house.
