Evans, California facts for kids
Evans was once a small settlement, or community, located in Butte County, California, in the United States. It's no longer a populated place today.
What Was Evans?
Evans was a tiny community that existed for only a short time. It was located about 3 miles (or 4.8 kilometers) north of another place called Yankee Hill. Think of it as a very small, temporary village that has since disappeared.
A Short-Lived Post Office
Even though it was small, Evans had its own post office! This post office helped people send and receive mail. It was open for a few years, from 1899 to 1902. After 1902, the post office closed, and the settlement eventually faded away.
How Did Evans Get Its Name?
The settlement of Evans was named after a person named Samantha Evans. Interestingly, Samantha Evans herself never actually visited the area where Evans was located. It's a bit of a mystery why it was named after someone who hadn't been there!
