Eve Oja was an Estonian mathematician who lived from 1948 to 2019. She was an expert in a special area of math called functional analysis. She also taught as a professor at the University of Tartu.

About Eve Oja
Early Life and School
Eve Oja was born in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. She went to Tartu State University, which is now called the University of Tartu. She finished her first university degree in 1972.
Then, in 1975, she earned her doctorate degree. A doctorate is a very high university degree. For her doctorate, she wrote a big research paper called a dissertation. Her paper was about "Unconditional Schauder decompositions in locally convex spaces." Professor Gunnar Kangro helped her with this important work.
Her Career in Mathematics
Eve Oja started working at the University of Tartu in 1975. She taught there for many years. She also spent a year teaching in Mali from 1977 to 1978. Later, from 1980 to 1981, she did advanced research in France at Aix-Marseille University.
She was the head of the Institute of Pure Mathematics at the University of Tartu several times. From 2009 to 2015, she led the Estonian School of Mathematics and Statistics. This school helps guide math and statistics education in Estonia.
Since 1998, Eve Oja was also the main editor for a math journal. This journal is called Acta et Commentationes Universitatis Tartuensis de Mathematica.
Awards and Recognition
In 2010, Eve Oja was chosen to be a member of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. This is a very important group of top scientists in Estonia. She was also a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Her Passing
Eve Oja passed away on January 27, 2019, at the age of 70.
