A Look Back in Time
How Evelyn Got Its Name
The name Evelyn comes from an old 'pastoral run'. A pastoral run was a large area of land used for raising animals like sheep or cattle. This run was named by Francis Horace Stubley. He was a politician who represented the area from 1878 to 1883. He named it after his wife.
Early Schools in Evelyn
Two schools once served the Evelyn area.
- Evelyn Scrub Provisional School first opened on 11 October 1895. It later became Evelyn Scrub State School in 1909. The school closed for a short time between 1918 and 1919. It then closed for good on 19 August 1946.
- Geraldton Road State School opened in 1916. This school was located at 45 Geraldton Road. It closed its doors in 1960.
