His album Jazz Funk Soul, which he made with Chuck Loeb and Jeff Lorber, was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Everette Harp's Musical Journey

Everette Harp is the youngest of eight children. His father was a minister, and his mother played the organ. This meant he grew up listening to a lot of gospel music. This type of music was one of his first big influences.

He started playing jazz when he was in middle school. He went to the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. Later, he studied music at North Texas State University in the early 1980s.

After college, Harp worked as an accountant for a short time. But he also played in local bands in Houston. One of these was a jazz/funk group called The Franchise. They even released an album locally.

Moving to Los Angeles and Early Success

In 1988, Everette Harp moved to Los Angeles. He soon started touring with famous singers like Teena Marie and Anita Baker. Just two years later, the well-known musician George Duke signed him to a record deal. Harp was going to record with Duke's group, 101 North.

However, before that group's album came out, Bruce Lundvall from Blue Note Records offered Harp a solo contract. Harp's first solo album was produced by George Duke. It was released by Blue Note in 1992.

Performing and Collaborating

Everette Harp performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival as a special guest. He also appeared every week on The Arsenio Hall Show. He played on the theme song for Entertainment Tonight and Soul Train. In 1992, he even shared the stage with President Bill Clinton.

Harp has worked with many other famous musicians. These include Stanley Clarke, Natalie Cole, Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, Billy Joel, Chaka Khan, Kenny Loggins, Marcus Miller, and Luther Vandross.

He continued to work on television shows and in recording studios. He became a popular musician in Los Angeles. He appeared on shows like The Tonight Show and The Tavis Smiley Show. Over time, Harp focused more on his own solo music career.

Jazz Funk Soul Group

Everette Harp teamed up with guitarist Chuck Loeb and keyboardist Jeff Lorber. They formed a group called Jazz Funk Soul. This trio released two studio albums together. The first was Jazz Funk Soul in 2014. The second was More Serious Business in 2016. Sadly, Chuck Loeb passed away in 2017.
