Evgenia Vasilievna Baykova (Russian: Евге́ния Васи́льевна Байко́ва; born November 22, 1907 – died 1997) was a talented Russian artist. She was known for her paintings and drawings. Evgenia lived and worked in Saint Petersburg, a famous city in Russia. She was part of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists. This group was important in the art world. Many people saw her as a key artist from the Leningrad school of painting.

Early Life and Training

Evgenia Vasilievna Baykova was born on November 22, 1907. Her birthplace was Saint Petersburg, which was then part of the Russian Empire.

In 1934, Evgenia began her art studies. She joined the Department of Painting at the Repin Institute of Arts. This school was known as the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture back then. She learned from many great teachers. Some of her teachers included Boris Fogel and Mikhail Bernshtein. Others were Semion Abugov and Genrikh Pavlovsky.

Becoming an Artist

Evgenia Baykova finished her studies in 1940. She graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. She became a painting artist. She studied in the workshop of Alexander Osmerkin. Other young artists also graduated with her. These included Olga Bogaevskaya and Mikhail Natarevich.

Her final project was a genre painting. This type of painting shows scenes from everyday life. Her artwork was called The first news of the transfer of land to the peasants. It showed the early decisions made by the government at that time.

Her Art and Exhibitions

Evgenia Baykova started showing her art in exhibitions in 1940. She painted many different kinds of pictures. She created scenes of daily life. She also painted portraits of people. Her art included beautiful still lifes, which are paintings of objects. She also painted many landscapes, showing nature and outdoor scenes.

In 1983, Evgenia had her own special exhibition. It took place in Leningrad. This was a big moment in her career.

Evgenia Baykova became a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists in 1944. This union was a major art organization. It was known as the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists of Russian Federation before 1992.

Evgenia Vasilievna Baykova passed away in Saint Petersburg in 1997. Her paintings are now in many art museums. You can also find her works in private collections. These collections are in Russia, Italy, France, the U.S., England, and other countries.
