Ewen James Hanning Cameron, also known as Lord Cameron of Dillington, was born on November 24, 1949. He is a British farmer and landowner. Early Life and Education
Ewen Cameron grew up with four brothers and sisters. His father, Allan John Cameron, was a Major in the army. His family has a long history, connected to the Clan Cameron in Scotland. His mother's family owned land in Somerset, England.
He went to Harrow School, a well-known school in England. After that, he studied modern history at Oxford University.
Career and Public Service
Since 1971, Lord Cameron has managed the Dillington House Estate. This estate is near Ilminster in Somerset and has been in his mother's family for over 250 years. Part of his title, "of Dillington," comes from this estate.
Important Roles
Lord Cameron has held several important roles:
- From 1995 to 1997, he was the national president of the Country Land and Business Association. This group works for landowners and rural businesses.
- He was part of the UK Government's Round Table for Sustainable Development from 1997 to 2000. This group focused on how to develop things without harming the environment for the future.
- From 1999 to 2004, he was the chairman of the Countryside Agency. This agency worked to protect and improve the English countryside.
- He also served as the UK Government's rural advocate for England from 2000 to 2004. In this role, he spoke up for the needs of people living in rural areas.
Joining the House of Lords
In 1986, he was appointed High Sheriff of Somerset. This is an old and important role, representing the King or Queen in the county.
In 2003, he was made a Knight, which is an honor given by the King or Queen. Then, on June 29, 2004, he was given a life peerage. This means he became Baron Cameron of Dillington and could join the House of Lords for the rest of his life.

Lord Cameron is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. This means he is an expert in land and property. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies, showing his knowledge in farming.
From 2010 to 2015, he was the President of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists. Since 2010, he has been a co-chair of the APPG on Agriculture and Food for Development. Lord Cameron married Caroline Anne Ripley in 1975. They have three sons and one daughter. His younger sister, Bride Donalda Elspeth Cameron, is married to Lord Donald Graham.
