Jeffrey Abel (born April 29, 1986), known as Excision, is a Canadian DJ and electronic music producer. He creates exciting and powerful bass music. Excision is famous for his huge sound systems and amazing visual shows at his concerts.

He started his own music labels, Rottun Recordings and Subsidia Records. He also created his own music festivals, Lost Lands and Bass Canyon. Excision is also part of a supergroup called Destroid.

Who is Excision?

Jeffrey Abel started making music in 2006. His first song, "Warning," came out in 2007. For many years, he released a special mix album called "Shambhala" every year. These mixes featured lots of different dubstep songs.

In 2017, he started his own music festival called Lost Lands. Since then, he releases new mixes every year. He is known for making his live shows an incredible experience. They have massive sound systems and stunning visual effects.

Destroid: The Robot Supergroup

Excision also founded a record label called Destroid Music. He formed a dubstep supergroup called Destroid with other artists, Downlink and KJ Sawka.

Destroid is famous for their cool, futuristic robot suits. They play heavy, powerful music that sounds like the end of the world. Their shows also have amazing visual effects and use special electronic instruments. In 2013, Destroid released their first album, The Invasion.

Excision's Music Journey

Excision began his career by releasing mixes of different dubstep songs. His first mix was "Darkside Dubstep" in 2006. In 2009, he released his first collection of songs, called an EP, titled "Boom." This was released on his own label, Rottun Recordings.

In 2010, he worked with DJ Downlink and rapper Messinian on a song called "Heavy Artillery." They also made another song together called "Reploid."

First Albums and Tours

In 2011, Excision released his first full album, X Rated. It came out on deadmau5's record label, mau5trap. To celebrate the album, he went on a big tour across North America in 2012. Later that year, a remix album called "X Rated: The Remixes" was released.

In 2013, Excision introduced his "Executioner" stage. This was a huge stage, 28 feet wide and 15 feet tall. It had cool video projections and 40 lasers! He took this amazing stage on a four-month tour.

He also brought a massive 100,000-watt sound system to an event called Boomfest in Colorado. This made the music incredibly loud and clear for everyone.

In 2014, Excision went on another North American tour. This time, he brought an even bigger 150,000-watt sound system. He continued to use his "Executioner" stage with its awesome video and light show.

New Albums and Shows

In 2015, Excision released his second album, Codename X. In 2016, he launched a new tour and production system called "The Paradox." This show also had incredible visuals and sound.

Later in 2016, he released his third album, Virus. It had 16 songs and featured collaborations with many other artists.

His fourth album, Apex, came out in 2018. It took him two years to create! This album had 14 songs and included collaborations with artists like Illenium and Sullivan King. Excision said Apex was a way to celebrate everything he had achieved in his career.

In 2019, Excision released two EPs. One was called Breaking Through with Dutch producer Dion Timmer. The other was Evolution EP with American producer Wooli.

In late 2019, Excision announced his newest show, "The Evolution." This show was even bigger and better than his previous ones. It debuted in early 2020 in Tacoma, Washington.

In 2020, Excision worked with Illenium again on a song called "Feel Something." This song also featured the metal band I Prevail. He also released "Resistance" with Downlink.

Subsidia Records

In September 2020, Excision announced his new record label, Subsidia Records. He launched it with three huge collections of bass music. These collections had 118 songs in total! He also released a long mix from his online concert, called "Excision Subsidia Mix 2020."

Excision is not just a DJ; he also creates his own music festivals!

Lost Lands Music Festival

In 2017, Excision started his first festival, Lost Lands. It's a dinosaur-themed music festival! It takes place in Ohio and features many top bass music DJs. The first Lost Lands had artists like Seven Lions, Rezz, Zeds Dead, and of course, Excision himself. It's a camping festival where fans can enjoy music and a unique dinosaur experience.

Bass Canyon Music Festival

After the success of Lost Lands, Excision announced a festival on the west coast called Bass Canyon. It started in 2018 and is held in Washington state. Like Lost Lands, Bass Canyon is a yearly camping festival that features many popular bass music producers.

Paradise Blue Festival

In 2021, Excision announced Paradise Blue. This is an all-inclusive festival held at a resort in Cancún, Mexico. The first Paradise Blue festival took place in April 2022.

Achievements

  • The song "Destroid 1 Raise Your Fist" reached number 50 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart in 2013.
  • Excision won the award for Best Dubstep Track at the first annual DMA's (Dubstep Music Awards) in 2012.
