The Exomilus pentagonalis, also known as the orange rib drillia, is a type of sea snail. It is a small marine mollusk that belongs to the gastropod group. This snail is part of the family called Raphitomidae.

What Does This Snail Look Like?

The shell of the Exomilus pentagonalis is quite small. It usually grows to about 3.5 mm long. Its width, or diameter, is around 1.25 mm.

The shell has a unique shape, like a tiny telescope. It is also quite thick and strong. It has about four and a half whorls, which are the spiral turns of the shell. The top part of the shell, called the spire, looks like steps. Each whorl is straight on the sides.

The shell has special patterns called sculpture. It has five strong ribs that run along its length. These ribs are narrow but stand out. Because of these ribs, the shell looks like it has five sides when you look at it from the end. There are also tiny lines that cross these ribs.

The main part of the shell, called the body whorl, also has these five ribs. These ribs have small points that stick out. The shell narrows below this main part.

The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is long and narrow. The edge of the opening, known as the outer lip, is thicker because of one of the ribs. This lip has a small curve or notch at the top. The central pillar inside the shell, called the columella, is mostly straight. The shell is usually a dull, stony-white color.

Where Does This Snail Live?

This sea snail lives only in Australia. It is found in the waters off the coasts of New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania. This means it is an endemic species to Australia.
