Eynion de Tilston facts for kids
Sir Eynion de Tilston was a brave Norman knight who lived a long time ago, around the 1100s. He was born about 1126. He became the very first lord of a place called Tilston in Cheshire, England. This area was close to the border with Wales.
Becoming Lord of Tilston Manor
In the 12th century, which was the 1100s, Sir Eynion was given the land of Tilston. A powerful person named William de Malpas gave him this land. The Earl of Chester, who was like a very important leader in the area, also gave Sir Eynion the Manor of Tilston. This gift was in return for his military service. This means Sir Eynion promised to fight and protect the Earl's lands.
Tilston was near the Welsh border. Because of this, Sir Eynion and his family had to be ready for attacks. Welsh groups sometimes raided the border areas. So, Sir Eynion's job was to keep the land safe.
Sir Eynion's Family Life
In 1154, Sir Eynion married a woman named Beatrix de Gernons. She was the daughter of Ranulf de Gernon, who was also an Earl of Chester. This marriage connected Sir Eynion to a very important family.
Sir Eynion and Beatrix had at least one son, born around 1156. We don't know his son's exact name. Beatrix de Gernons was also the sister of Hugh of Kevelioc, another Earl of Chester. She was even a great-granddaughter of Henry I Beauclerc. Henry I was a son of William The Conqueror, the famous king who invaded England in 1066. This means Sir Eynion's wife was related to royalty!
