Faarrow is a cool Canadian music duo made up of two sisters, Siham and Iman Hashi. They sing pop and R&B music. In 2016, they released their first collection of songs, called an "EP," titled Lost.

About the Sisters

Siham and Iman Hashi were born in a city called Mogadishu. This city is in a country called Somalia. Their mom was a diplomat. A diplomat is someone who works for their country in other countries. Because of her job, the family lived in different places like Saudi Arabia and Germany.

When a civil war started in Somalia in 1991, their family moved to Toronto, Canada. This was to keep them safe.

Even though they loved music and sang a lot at home, Siham and Iman didn't have music lessons. They grew up in a traditional Muslim family. In their home, learning and school were very important.

Besides making music, the sisters also do good work for others. They have their own non-profit group that helps people.

Their Music Journey

In 2007, the sisters moved to Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. They wanted to start a music career there. Their parents were not sure about this at first. This was because of their traditional family background. But their dad finally said yes. He had one rule: the girls had to live with his sister. They also had to promise to go back to school later.

After this, they signed a deal with Universal Motown. This was a big record company. They were the first female artists from Somalia to sign with such a major U.S. music label.

Around 2009 and 2010, the duo started making their first album. It was called Sweet Rush. They recorded it in Los Angeles. The group said they first wanted to call the album Sweet and Spicy. But they decided to name it Sweet Rush instead. This was because of their "sweet" way of performing. The "rush" part came from their music style. They wanted to mix traditional Somali music with modern sounds.

Some of their songs include "Hot Sauce." Faarrow has also worked with other famous artists. They collaborated with Ester Dean and Akon on a song called Troublemaker. They also worked with the duo Rock City.

Faarrow gets their musical inspiration from many artists. Some of their main influences are the Spice Girls, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Mika.

The name of their band, Faarrow, has a special meaning. It combines words from Arabic. "Fa" means "faith" and "arrow" comes from the meaning of their names.

Helping Others

In the 2000s, Siham and Iman started a non-profit group called Somalia Lives Again. This group helps their home country, Somalia. They also raise money for good causes by selling handmade jewelry. This project is called Wish Creatively.

The band has also performed at special events. They sang on World Refugee Day in Tunisia. They also performed at the UNHCR's Nansen Refugee Award ceremony. These events help people who have had to leave their homes.
