Fab is a popular ice lolly brand. It is made by Nestlé, a big food company. Fab lollies were first created in the United Kingdom. They were launched by a company called J. Lyons & Co. Ltd.
Fab lollies, along with another brand called 'Zoom', were made to be popular. This was because of two famous TV shows by Gerry Anderson. These shows were Fireball XL5 and Thunderbirds.

How Fab Lollies Started
The 'Zoom' lolly came out first, in 1963. It was shaped like a rocket and was mostly for boys. This left a gap in the market for a lolly that girls might like more. So, the 'Fab' lolly was created in 1967.
The Fab lolly was designed to appeal to girls. It was linked to the character Lady Penelope from the Thunderbirds show. In the show, the phrase "F-A-B" was used. It meant "message received" or "okay". The first Fab lolly wrappers even showed Lady Penelope and her driver, Parker.
What's in a Fab Lolly?
A Fab lolly has three main parts. The bottom part is made of strawberry fruit ice. The middle part is creamy vanilla ice. The top part is dipped in chocolate and covered with colorful hundreds and thousands.
The packaging describes it as a "Real Strawberry and vanilla flavour ice lolly". It also mentions the chocolate coating and sugar strands.
Different Fab Flavors
Over the years, the center of the Fab lolly changed. It used to be a jelly-like center, but now it's strawberry ice.
Fab has also come in different flavors:
- An orange flavor was made.
- A special lemon flavor was available for a short time.
- In 2000, an apple and blackcurrant flavor was released.
- A tropical flavor came out in 2003.
- In 2018, a "Birthday Cake" lolly was made to celebrate 50 years of Fab. It had raspberry water and sponge cake flavor ice. It also had a vanilla coating and sugar strands.
- In 2019, Nestlé introduced a Raspberry Doughnut flavor. This lolly had raspberry doughnut water ice and a raspberry sauce center. It still had the usual chocolate coating and sugar strands.
The connection between the Fab brand and the Thunderbirds TV show ended in the early 1970s.
