Fabián Bielinsky (born February 3, 1959 – died June 29, 2006) was a talented Argentine film director. He was known for making exciting movies that kept audiences on the edge of their seats.

Fabián Bielinsky's Film Career
Fabián Bielinsky was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 3, 1959. He loved making films from a young age. When he was just thirteen, he created his first short film. It was based on a story by the famous writer Julio Cortázar.
After high school, Fabián first studied psychology. But he soon realized his true passion was filmmaking. He then joined a special film school called the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts. He finished his studies in 1983 with a short film called La espera. This film won an award at a film festival in Spain.
Around 1983, Fabián started working in the film industry. He began as an assistant director. This meant he helped other directors with their movies. He worked with well-known filmmakers like Miguel Pérez and Eliseo Subiela. He even helped with a car commercial that a famous director named Wim Wenders was filming in Argentina. Fabián also wrote the script for a movie called Sleepwalker in 1998.
His First Big Movie: Nine Queens
Fabián Bielinsky directed his first feature film, Nine Queens (Nueve reinas), in 2000. It was a crime thriller about a clever trick involving fake stamps. The movie was a huge hit! People loved it in Argentina and all over the world.
Nine Queens won seven Silver Condor awards. These are very important film awards in Argentina. It won for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Many Hollywood companies wanted Fabián to remake the movie in English, but he said no. An American version, called Criminal, was later made in 2004.
His Second Film: The Aura
Fabián Bielinsky directed his second movie, The Aura, in 2005. Ricardo Darín, who was the main actor in Nine Queens, also starred in The Aura. This film was not as financially successful as Nine Queens, but critics still praised it.
Reviewers noticed that The Aura was different from Nine Queens. It was more serious and mysterious, like a detective story. The Aura also won several Silver Condor awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. This movie was chosen to represent Argentina at the 78th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
In both of Fabián's films, there's a mysterious character called "El Turco." This powerful person is often mentioned but never actually shown on screen.
Fabián Bielinsky's Life and Legacy
Fabián Bielinsky was married and had one child. Sadly, he passed away suddenly on June 29, 2006. He died from a heart attack in his sleep while in São Paulo, Brazil. He was there to cast actors for an advertisement. This happened just a month before he was going to show The Aura at a film festival in Scotland.
In 2011, Fabián Bielinsky received a special award called the Konex Award. This award recognized him as one of the top five film directors in Argentina during that decade. His movies continue to be enjoyed by many people today.
