The Story of Failetown

How Failetown Started

Failetown began in the 1850s. A man named Lewis Faile moved there with his children, Richmond, Terrell, and Morgan. They came all the way from South Carolina to settle in this new area.

What Remains Today

Today, Failetown is mostly abandoned. You can still find the Faile Cemetery there. There are also old buildings like the Post Office and homes. Many of these buildings are falling apart.

A Battle in Failetown

An important event happened in Failetown a long time ago. On October 4, 1813, a fight called the Bashi Skirmish took place here. This skirmish was part of the Creek War.

You can find a special marker that tells about this battle. It is a Clarke County historical marker. It stands on Woods Bluff Road, between Alabama 69 and Cassidy Hill.
