Fairlie is a small farming community in northeastern Hunt County, Texas, United States. It is an "unincorporated community." This means it does not have its own local government. Instead, it is managed as part of the larger county. Fairlie is located on State Highway 11. It is about 11 miles from Greenville, found between Commerce and Wolfe City.
A Look Back at Fairlie's History
Fairlie got its name from a person called Fairlee Webster. We do not know much about Fairlee or why the town was named after them. By 1892, Fairlie had enough people living there to open its first post office. This was an important step for the community. By 1904, the number of people living in Fairlie grew to 248. However, the post office closed down in the late 1980s. By the year 2000, Fairlie's population had become smaller. Only 80 residents lived there at that time.
Interesting Facts About Fairlie
Fairlie has three main roads that are easy to spot. Both Highway 50 and Highway 11 pass through Fairlie. They meet with FM 1563. This road runs east and west through the older part of town. As of 2010, there are no traffic lights in Fairlie. Today, the Ball Seed Clover company has its office in Fairlie. It is located in what used to be the old railroad office.
