Discover Falan's History

Falan has a long and interesting history. It was first settled by native groups like the Guandecas and Pomponáes tribes even before the year 1539.

Early European Encounters

In 1539, a Spanish explorer named Baltazar Maldonado was one of the first Europeans to find this area. Later, in the mid-1500s, more Spanish conquistadors (explorers and conquerors) arrived.

The Search for Gold and Silver

In the mid-1700s, Spanish settlers came to Falan. They were looking for valuable metals like silver and gold in the nearby mountains. They named their new community "Rosario de Lajas." There was a very important mine nearby called Santa Ana. Because so much ore came from this mine, people soon started calling the community "Santa Ana" too.

How Falan Got Its Name

The name of the municipality changed again in 1930. It was renamed Falan to honor a famous poet named Diego Fallón Carrión. He was born in the region, and the town wanted to remember him.
