Falling from Grace is an exciting mystery novel written by Jane Godwin. It's a book for young adults, meaning it's perfect for readers aged 12-15. The story takes place in Victoria, Australia, and it first came out in 2006. Many students in Years 7 and 8 study this book in school.
Story Summary
The story begins with two young sisters, Annie and Grace. They are playing one last game of "Tracking" with their dad at the beach. This beach is near Point Nepean. A storm is coming, and it is getting dark outside.
Annie, who is younger and more agile than Grace, quickly climbs up a steep hill. Grace tries to follow her. Suddenly, the ground beneath Grace gives way, and she disappears.
A search for Grace begins right away. However, the bad weather makes it very difficult to find her. The police soon become interested in two people. One is a young man named Kip, who found Grace's backpack on the beach. The other is Ted, who was on the beach that night but couldn't remember much about what happened.
The police have trouble getting clear information from Ted. As the story unfolds, the situation starts to look difficult for both Kip and Ted. This is especially true the longer Grace remains missing.
How the Story is Told
Falling from Grace is written in a special way. The story is told from the point of view of different characters. You will read chapters narrated by Kip, Grace, and Annie (Grace's younger sister).
Grace only narrates three short chapters in the book. These chapters are not very clear because she has been lost for a few days.
