Dysodiopsis tagetoides, also known as false dogfennel, is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the sunflower family. This plant grows naturally in the United States. You can find it only in Oklahoma and Texas. It prefers to grow in soil that has a lot of calcium, like limestone.
The plant group Dysodiopsis is special because it only contains one species. This means Dysodiopsis tagetoides is the only plant of its kind in this group.
About the False Dogfennel Plant
Dysodiopsis tagetoides is a perennial herb. This means it is a plant that lives for more than two years. It can grow up to 80 centimeters (about 31 inches) tall.
The plant produces its flower heads either one at a time or in small groups. Each flower head looks like a single flower, but it is actually made of many tiny flowers. These heads can have up to 12 bright yellow ray florets. These are the petal-like parts around the edge. In the center, there can be up to 40 dull yellow disc florets. These are the tiny flowers that make up the center of the head.
