History of Falun
Falun was started by a Swedish immigrant named Erik Fors. He was born in a town called Malung in Sweden. Erik Fors came to America in 1850. He fought in the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865.
In 1869, Erik Fors moved to Kansas with about 40 other Swedish settlers. They decided to name their new community Falun. This name came from a town near Erik's birthplace in Sweden. Some of the first residents came directly from Sweden. Others had lived in places like Bishop Hill and Galva, Illinois, before moving to Kansas.
The first post office in Falun opened in 1870. This was an important step for the new community.
In 1886, the Union Pacific Railroad built train tracks through the area. A train station was also built. The railway helped the town grow and develop.
The next year, in 1887, the people of Falun decided they had enough residents to start a church. The first pastors for this new church included Rev. Carl A. Swenson.
Falun still has a post office today. Its ZIP code is 67442.
