Farewell is a small, unincorporated community located in southern Oregon County, in the state of Missouri, USA. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
Where is Farewell, Missouri?
This community is found along Missouri Route V. It's about eight miles east of a town called Thayer. Farewell is also very close to the state line, just half a mile north of where Missouri meets Arkansas. If you travel west on Route V for about 1.5 miles, you'll reach the community of Jeff. Going five miles to the east will take you to Myrtle.
The History of Farewell's Name
The name "Farewell" has an interesting story. A post office was opened in this community in 1912. It stayed open for 15 years, closing down in 1927. The postal authorities, who were in charge of mail services, were the ones who decided to name the place "Farewell."
