History of Thayer
A post office has been open in Thayer since 1884. The city was named after Nathaniel Thayer, who helped build railroads.
Thayer is known as a "railroad town." It was planned in 1882 to be a special stopping point for trains. Around the year 1900, about 400 railroad workers lived in Thayer. Today, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad still goes through the town.
