History of Mammoth Spring
In 1890, people wanted to build big factories in Mammoth Spring. They told investors from Memphis that it was a great spot.
At that time, the town had a fancy hotel called The Nettleton. People said it was as nice as hotels in Eureka Springs. A rich man from Memphis, Napoleon Hill, built The Nettleton. It was open from 1899 until 1932, when a fire destroyed it.

Mammoth Spring and the Grand Ole Opry
Mammoth Spring played a part in the start of the famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. In 1919, a reporter named George D. Hay visited Mammoth Spring. He was invited to a local party.
At this party, musicians played the fiddle, guitar, and banjo all night. George D. Hay was very impressed. This experience gave him the idea to create what became the Grand Ole Opry.
