Jeff, Missouri facts for kids
Jeff is a small place in Oregon County, Missouri, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does.
You can find Jeff on Missouri Route V. It's about seven miles (11 km) east of a town called Thayer. Jeff is also just one mile (1.6 km) north of the border between Missouri and Arkansas. Another small community, Farewell, is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the east on the same road.
The Story of Jeff
Jeff got its name from a person! A post office was opened in Jeff in 1884. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office stayed open until 1914.
The community was named after Joseph Jeffers. He was a local businessman who owned a mill in the area. A mill uses water power to grind grain into flour. So, the name "Jeff" comes from his last name, Jeffers.
