What is Farrington?

Farrington is a historic location in the U.S. state of Washington. It was once an important stop along a railway line. Today, it is known more for its past than for being a busy community.

Where is Farrington Located?

This community is found in Franklin County, Washington. It sits along the Snake River, which is a major river in the Pacific Northwest. Farrington is about 37 miles northeast of a city called Pasco. Its location by the river and railway made it a key spot in the past.

Farrington's Railway History

Farrington was named after R. I. Farrington, who was an official for the railroad. Because of its location, it became a railway stop. This meant trains would pause there, likely for supplies or to let people on and off. Railway stops were very important for travel and trade in the early 1900s.

Farrington During World War I

During World War I, Farrington played a small but important role. From April 6, 1917, to October 16, 1917, a group of soldiers was stationed there. This group was part of Company F of the 2nd Idaho Infantry. Later, they became Company F, 116th Engineer Regiment, 41st Division. Their job was to guard the railway and waterway structures. This was to make sure no one tried to damage them, especially after the United States declared war on Germany. Protecting these important transportation routes was crucial for national safety during wartime.
