Ömer Faruk Gürler (born 1913, died 1975) was an important Turkish general. He held very high positions in the Turkish military. He was the leader of the Turkish Army for a time. Later, he became the Chief of the General Staff of Turkey. This is the highest military position in the country.

Who Was Faruk Gürler?
Ömer Faruk Gürler was born in Istanbul, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire. He joined the military in 1929. He served his country for many years. He rose through the ranks to become a General.
Leading the Turkish Army
From 1970 to 1972, Faruk Gürler was the Commander of the Turkish Army. This meant he was in charge of all the land forces. During this time, Turkey experienced some political changes.
Becoming Chief of Staff
In 1972, General Gürler was promoted again. He became the Chief of the General Staff of Turkey. This is the top job for any military officer in Turkey. He held this important role until 1973.
The Presidential Election
After his time as Chief of Staff, Faruk Gürler was a candidate for President of Turkey in 1973. The President is chosen by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This is like the country's parliament. Even though he was a strong candidate from the military, he did not win the election. Fahri Korutürk was chosen as President instead.
Faruk Gürler passed away in 1975 in Istanbul.
