History of Fashion Fair Mall
Fashion Fair mall was built in 1970. It started with three main stores: Gottschalks, JCPenney, and Weinstock's. Later, in 1983, Macy's joined the mall as another big store.
Changes to Stores Over Time
In 1996, some of the stores changed. Weinstock's, which was a large department store, closed down. Its space was taken over by Gottschalks. At the same time, the original Gottschalks store became a new Macy's store, focusing on men's clothing and home goods.
Gottschalks faced financial problems and closed its doors in 2009. After that, Forever 21 took over the large space. On April 1, 2011, a huge Forever 21 store opened there. It was one of the biggest Forever 21 stores ever built in the United States! However, over time, the store became smaller, using fewer floors. In 2019, Forever 21 had some financial difficulties, but this location managed to stay open.
The Village at Fashion Fair
In 2005, the mall added a new section called The Village at Fashion Fair. This part of the mall is outdoors, like a fancy street with shops and restaurants. It brought in popular stores like Michael Kors and Sephora. It also added well-known restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Fleming's steakhouse.
Over the years, some stores in The Village have changed. For example, Urban Outfitters left and was replaced by an Ulta Beauty store in 2018. Later that year, an H&M store also opened nearby. These changes keep the mall fresh and exciting for shoppers.
