A Look Back: Fayette's History
Fayette became an official village in 1872. This happened when a railroad line was built to the area. A post office opened in Fayette the very next year, in 1873.

Arts and Culture
Fayette has a special place called the Fayette Opera House on Main Street. It was built in 1889 and cost $4,000 to build. In the past, it hosted many traveling theater groups.
Today, the Opera House is still a busy place. It holds school plays, small concerts, and talks. It also hosts the yearly Reed Organ Festival.
Just three miles southwest of Fayette, you can find Harrison Lake State Park. This park was created in 1941 when a dam was built over Mill Creek. It's a great spot for outdoor activities.
Annual Events
Fayette hosts two exciting festivals each year:
- Bullthistle Festival: This festival happens on the first Saturday in August. It includes a parade, fun activities, food, and entertainment. There's also a basketball tournament at the community park. The festival ends with a fireworks show at the Fayette school.
- Fall Festival: This event takes place on the last Saturday of September. It's held along historic Main Street. You can enjoy activities, entertainment, and food. There are also craft vendors selling unique items from the area.
Learning and Education
The Fayette Local School District manages two schools in the village. These are Fayette Elementary School and Fayette High School. For reading and learning, the village has the Normal Memorial Library. It's a great place to borrow books.
