The Fayette County Reservoir is a special lake in Texas. It was built to help a power plant stay cool. This lake is also a great place for fun activities like fishing and boating! People often call it Lake Fayette.

Why Was It Built?

This reservoir was made in 1978. Workers built a dam on Cedar Creek to create the lake. The main reason for the lake was to provide cool water for the Fayette Power Project. This power plant makes electricity for homes and businesses in Fayette County and nearby areas.

The Lower Colorado River Authority manages the dam, the lake, and the power plant. They make sure everything runs smoothly.

Fish and Fun at the Lake

Fayette County Reservoir is a very popular spot for outdoor fun. Many people come here to enjoy the water and nature.

Fish Populations

The lake has been stocked with different kinds of fish. This makes it a great place for recreational fishing. You can find several types of fish here, including catfish, largemouth bass, and sunfish.

Recreational Activities

Boating and fishing are two of the most popular things to do at Lake Fayette. There's also a playground for younger kids. If you like walking or biking, there's a 3-mile trail. This trail connects two parks: Oak Thicket Park and Park Prairie Park. Oak Thicket Park also has its own nature trail.

What's Under the Water?

Before the reservoir was created, a small town called Biegel used to be in this area. Biegel was known for its tasty pickles! When the lake was filled, the town was covered by water. Sometimes, if you use special equipment called fish finders, you might even see outlines of the old houses under the water!
