A Look Back: Fayetteville's History

Early Days and the Creek War
Back in 1814, soldiers from Tennessee joined forces with Andrew Jackson. They fought in a conflict known as the Creek Indian War. This war was a significant event in the history of the region.
Founding of the Community
After the Creek Indian War, in 1836, many of these soldiers, who were now veterans, moved their families to this area. They decided to name their new home "Fayetteville." They chose this name because it reminded them of their old home in Tennessee.
Education in Fayetteville
Education has been important in Fayetteville for a long time. In 1850, a school called the Fayetteville Academy was built. Later, in 1920, a new high school was constructed in the community. This school was named Fayetteville High School.
