Felipe González González was an important Mexican politician and businessman. He was born on January 28, 1947, and passed away on February 24, 2023. He belonged to a political group called the National Action Party (PAN). He served as the leader (Governor) of the state of Aguascalientes from 1998 to 2004. Later, he was a Senator, helping make laws for Mexico, from 2006 to 2012.

Early Life

Felipe González was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, on January 28, 1947. When he was 21 years old, his father passed away. After that, Felipe started working in his family's business with his brothers.

His Career

Business Activities

Felipe González spent most of his working life as an entrepreneur. This means he started and managed many different businesses. In 1991, he became the president of the Business Center of Aguascalientes (CEA). He also led the Employers' Confederation of Mexico (Coparmex) in Aguascalientes.

He was also involved in banking. He was the chairman of the board for BBVA Bancomer and a director for seven other banks. Felipe González also helped connect businesses by being president of the Sister City Committee. He founded and led the Social Union of Businessmen in Mexico (USEM) in Aguascalientes. He worked closely with grocery store owners as their association president.

In 1993, he received a special award called the Business Award of Merit. This award was given by the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce across Mexico.

Supporting Education

Felipe González cared a lot about education. He was the chairman of the board for the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. He also held the same role for the National College of Professional Technical Education (CONALEP). He helped start and support the creation of the Panamerican University's Bonaterra Campus in Aguascalientes.

Political Journey

Felipe González first entered politics in 1998. He ran as a candidate for Governor of Aguascalientes for the PAN party. His campaign was very active, and many people in Aguascalientes supported him. He won the election by surprise. He received 53% of the votes, while his opponent from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) got 36%. This made him the first governor of the state who was not from the PRI party.

As governor, he focused on bringing more industries to Aguascalientes. He worked hard to attract companies from other countries to invest in the state.

After his term as governor ended, President Vicente Fox appointed him to a role in the Interior Ministry. He worked there from August 2004 to January 2006. In 2006, he decided to run for the Senate, representing Aguascalientes. He won and served as a Senator until 2012. While in the Senate, he was the chairman of the Public Security Committee.

Personal Life

Felipe González was married to Cony Ramírez Zermeño. They had four children together. He was also a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, which is a Catholic fraternal organization. He served as the vice president of Corazón Amigo, an organization that helps provide medical care to people in need.

Felipe González passed away in the city of Aguascalientes on February 24, 2023. He was 76 years old.
