Felipe Reyes' Basketball Journey

Starting Out at Estudiantes (1998–2004)

Felipe Reyes began his professional basketball career in Spain's top league, the ACB League, with a team called Estudiantes Madrid. This was during the 1998–99 season. He also played for their second team, Estudiantes B, in a lower league.

Felipe stayed with Estudiantes until the 2003–04 season. While playing for them, he also got to compete in big European tournaments like the EuroCup and the top-level EuroLeague.

Becoming a Star at Real Madrid (2004–2021)

Before the 2004–05 season, Felipe Reyes joined the famous Spanish club Real Madrid. This was a big step in his career.

In May 2015, Felipe was chosen for the All-EuroLeague First Team because of his excellent performance that season. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Spanish ACB League for the 2014–15 season. This was the second time he won this important award.

That same 2014–15 season was incredible for Real Madrid. They won the EuroLeague championship by beating Olympiacos 78–59 in the final game. Real Madrid then went on to win the Spanish ACB League championship too, by defeating Barcelona. Winning both the EuroLeague and the Spanish League in the same season is called achieving the Triple Crown, which is a huge accomplishment in basketball.

In June 2015, Felipe signed a new two-year contract with Real Madrid. He continued to break records. In March 2017, he became the all-time leader in total rebounds in the Spanish ACB League, passing Granger Hall.

In May 2018, Real Madrid won another EuroLeague championship. They beat Fenerbahçe Doğuş 85–80 in the final game. Felipe played in 35 EuroLeague games that season, averaging 8.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Felipe kept setting records in 2019. On February 4, he became the all-time leader in games played in the ACB League, playing his 779th game and passing Joan Creus. Just a few days later, on February 15, he also became the all-time leader in games played in the Spanish King's Cup tournament, passing Juan Carlos Navarro.

Felipe Reyes re-signed with Real Madrid in July 2020. He officially announced the end of his long and successful professional basketball career on June 23, 2021. He was the team captain when he retired.
