Felipe Trigo (born February 13, 1864, in Villanueva de la Serena, Badajoz – died September 2, 1916, in Madrid) was a famous Spanish writer from the 20th century. He is known for his many books and stories.

Felipe Trigo first studied Medicine in Madrid. After finishing his studies, he worked as a doctor in several small towns in a region called Extremadura. Later, he joined the Military Health Corps, which is like being a doctor for the army. He was sent to the Philippines. While there, he became very ill. Because of his illness, he had to return home to Spain. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel when he came back.

In the year 1900, Felipe Trigo decided to stop working as a doctor. He wanted to spend all his time writing. This is when he truly began his career as a writer.

Felipe Trigo's Legacy

Felipe Trigo is still remembered today. In 1981, the city council of his hometown, Villanueva de la Serena, created a special award in his honor. These are called the Felipe Trigo Awards. Each year, these awards celebrate the best new novel and short story. It's a way to keep his memory and his love for literature alive.
