Feng Ting-kuo (Chinese: 馮定國; pinyin: Féng Dìngguó) was an important politician from Taiwan. He was born on September 24, 1950, and passed away on June 5, 2018. Feng Ting-kuo served in several key government roles during his career.
He was a member of the Taipei City Council from 1985 to 1988. Later, he joined the National Assembly from 1992 to 1996. After that, he represented Taichung County in the Legislative Yuan, which is like Taiwan's parliament, until 2008.
Education and Learning
Feng Ting-kuo was a very educated person. He first earned a bachelor's degree in law from Chinese Culture University in Taiwan. He then continued his studies abroad.
He received a master's degree in computer science from the State University of New York. After that, he earned a doctorate degree in education from the University of Denver.
Political Journey
Feng Ting-kuo began his political career by being elected to the Taipei City Council. This was his first step in serving the public. Later, he became a member of the National Assembly.
In 1995, he ran for the Legislative Yuan as a candidate for the New Party and won. He was re-elected in 1998. In 2001, he changed his political party to the People First Party and was re-elected again.
Feng Ting-kuo supported the idea of the People First Party joining with another big party, the Kuomintang, in 2004. He also worked to make it easier for foreign people married to Taiwanese citizens to get work permits. In 2007, he decided not to run for re-election to the Legislative Yuan. Instead, he supported another candidate from the Kuomintang.
Legal Matters
In 2008, Feng Ting-kuo faced a legal case concerning an event from 1998. The court in Taipei first found him not guilty in 2009. However, a higher court changed this decision in 2010.
Later, in September 2017, the Taiwan High Court reviewed the case again. This time, they ruled that Feng Ting-kuo was not guilty, and the previous ruling against him was removed. He was also found not guilty in another legal case in 2012, which was about a protest that happened in 2004.
Passing Away
Feng Ting-kuo passed away on June 5, 2018. He was 67 years old. He died from a myocardial infarction, which is a serious heart condition.
