Club History
Fermana Football Club has a long and interesting history. The team has changed its name and gone through different leagues over the years.
How Fermana Started
The club began in 1920 with the name S.S. La Fermo. A few years later, in 1924, it joined with another local team, Fermo F.C.. After this merger, the club was renamed U.S. Fermana.
Early Success and Challenges
In 1999, Fermana had a fantastic season. They won the Serie C1/B title. This victory allowed them to play in Serie B for the first time ever. Serie B is a higher and more competitive league. However, their time in Serie B was short. They were moved back down to Serie C1 the very next season.
After the 2005–06 season, Fermana faced more challenges. They finished last in Serie C1/A and were moved down to Serie C2. Due to financial problems, the club had to give up its place in Serie C2.
A New Beginning in 2006
In 2006, a new club was formed called Unione Sportiva Fermana 2006. This new team started in a lower amateur league called Prima Categoria. This was the eighth level of Italian football.
The team quickly started to climb up the leagues. In the 2006–07 season, they were promoted to Promozione. They almost made it to Eccellenza but lost in the playoff finals. However, in the 2007–08 season, Fermana won their championship and were promoted to Eccellenza.
In the 2010–11 season, Fermana came very close to winning the league. They drew a game with Ancona 2–2 and missed the championship by just one point. The 2011–12 season brought more success. Fermana won their league in a very balanced competition. In the 2012–13 season, they won the Coppa Italia Dilettanti. This is a cup competition for amateur teams. Sadly, the club faced financial difficulties again and stopped playing at the end of that season.
Fermana Football Club Today
In the summer of 2013, the club was started again. It was renamed Fermana Football Club. This happened after two teams, A.S.D. Montegranaro Calcio 1965 and AFC Fermo, joined together. The new Fermana F.C. began playing in Serie D.
The club continued to work hard. In the 2016–17 season, they won their group in 2016–17 Serie D. This victory meant they returned to the Italian third tier, Serie C, after 12 years.
Team Colors and Badge
The main colors of Fermana Football Club are yellow and blue. These colors are seen in their uniforms and their club badge. This is why one of their nicknames is i Gialloblù (The Yellow & Blue).
