Fernando Luján (born Fernando Ciangherotti Díaz; August 23, 1938 – January 11, 2019) was a famous Mexican actor. He was a big star in classic Mexican movies during the exciting time known as the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.

Many members of his family were also actors. This includes his father, Alejandro Ciangherotti Erbelia, his mother, Mercedes Soler, his brother Alejandro Ciangherotti Jr., his wife Martha Mariana Castro, and his children Fernando Ciangherotti, Fernando Canek, Cassandra Ciangherotti, and Vanessa Ciangherotti. Fernando Luján was not related to actress Daniela Luján.

Fernando Luján's Family Life

Fernando Luján was born in Bogota, Colombia. His parents, who were both actors, were touring with a play when he was born. However, he never became a Colombian citizen. His father was Alejandro Ciangherotti Erbelia, and his mother was Mercedes Soler. She was the youngest member of the famous Soler acting family.

Many people in his family followed in his footsteps and became actors. This includes his late brother, Alejandro Ciangherotti, his ex-wife, Adriana Parra, his wife Martha Mariana Castro, and his children Fernando, Vanessa, Cassandra, and Fernando Canek. He had 10 children in total: five daughters and five sons.

Family Project: Una vuelta al corazón

In 2009, Fernando Luján's wife, Martha Mariana, and daughter, Vanessa, created a special TV project. It was a three-part series about their family. This project celebrated the ninth anniversary of the TV show Lo que callamos las mujeres. Many of his children, nephews, and even his granddaughter starred in it. Vanessa and Fernando Ciangherotti also worked as directors for the series.

Fernando Luján's Acting Career

Fernando Luján started his acting journey as a child. He began in Mexican movies, first using the name Fernando Ciangherotti. A few years later, he changed his stage name to Fernando Luján. After appearing in more than eight films, mostly light comedies, he got a role in the TV show Cuatro en la trampa when he was 23 years old.

For the next 18 years, he worked in both movies and television. A big moment in his TV career was the globally famous show Los ricos también lloran. After that, he took a break from TV shows for 12 years, acting in only four movies. He returned to television in 1991 with Vida robada and Cadenas de amargura.

Success with Mirada de mujer

After acting in three more TV shows for Televisa, he signed a contract with TV Azteca. He co-starred with Angélica Aragón in Mirada de mujer, which was the second TV show for this new network. This show was a huge hit! It was so popular that a sequel was made six years later.

After Mirada de mujer, Fernando Luján got important roles in movies. One of his most notable roles was playing the main character in the 1999 film version of Gabriel García Márquez's book No One Writes to the Colonel (also known as El coronel no tiene quien le escriba). The New York Times newspaper said his acting in this film was "remarkable." In 2005, he received the Ariel Award from the Mexican Academy of Film. This award honored his amazing career and all his contributions to movies.
