Ferndale is a small community located in the central part of the Riverina region in New South Wales, Australia. It's about 6 kilometres (4 miles) northeast of Rand and 8 kilometres (5 miles) southwest of Urangeline East.

Ferndale's History

Ferndale has a simple but interesting past. Like many small communities, it grew around important services and transport links.

The Old Railway Line

For a time, Ferndale was connected by the Rand railway line. This railway branch line helped people and goods travel to and from the area. However, the railway line was closed in 1975. This meant trains no longer stopped in Ferndale.

The Post Office Story

The community also had its own post office. It first opened on 16 July 1885, but it had a different name back then: Ironbong Post Office. In 1898, its name was changed to Ferndale. The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed its doors in 1920.
