Festival of Family Classics was a fun animated TV show made by Rankin/Bass. It first aired between 1972 and 1973. You might have seen it on TV channels like Boomerang (in 2005) or Teletoon Retro (in 2011) if you watched reruns.

The show brought famous folk tales and classic books to life as animated episodes. Most of the episodes were about 20 minutes long. However, two longer stories, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days, were split into two parts. This made a total of 20 episodes. Many of these cartoons were animated by talented studios in Japan, called Mushi Production and Topcraft.

Over the years, different companies have released the show on video. These include Prism Entertainment and Anchor Bay Entertainment. Today, the rights are held by DreamWorks Classics.

A similar show, called Famous Classic Tales, also aired on TV from 1970 to 1984.
