Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre is a huge outdoor concert venue in Greenwood Village, Colorado. It's the largest amphitheatre in the Denver area and can hold up to 18,000 people! The venue usually hosts concerts and events every year from May to September. Over the years, it has also been known as the Coors Amphitheatre and the Comfort Dental Amphitheatre.

A Venue with a Story

Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre is a special place with an interesting history. It has 7,500 fixed seats and a large lawn area where people can sit on blankets and enjoy the show. The venue is located in a business area called Greenwood Plaza, surrounded by office buildings.

How It All Started

The amphitheatre first opened on June 11, 1988. The first performer to take the stage was singer Dan Fogelberg.

Interestingly, the venue didn't start as a big concert hall. It was first created as an "earth sculpture," made only of earth and grass. It was a place where people working nearby could enjoy lunchtime concerts. These concerts were put on by the Museum of Outdoor Arts. Later, permanent seats and walls were added to turn it into the large amphitheatre it is today.

A History of Different Names

Like many big venues, Fiddler's Green has had a few different names. Companies sometimes pay to have their name on a building, which is called a sponsorship.

  • Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre (1988–2004): This was its original name.
  • Coors Amphitheatre (2004–2009): A new company sponsored the venue.
  • Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre (2009–2010): It went back to its first name for a short time.
  • Comfort Dental Amphitheatre (2010–2013): A new sponsor, Comfort Dental, took over.
  • Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre (2013–present): After the sponsorship ended, it returned to its original name again.

In 2013, the venue got a big upgrade. The Museum of Outdoor Arts, which owns the amphitheatre, partnered with a new company to run it. They spent $5 million on renovations to make the venue even better for visitors.

The Museum and Park

The Museum of Outdoor Arts (MOA) is a non-profit group that owns Fiddler's Green. The museum focuses on putting art in outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Next to the amphitheatre is Marjorie Park, which is also owned by the MOA. The park is like an outdoor art gallery. It has many amazing sculptures, including a famous bronze statue series of Alice in Wonderland by artist Harry Marinsky. You can also see unique art made from sticks and other sculptures from artists around the world.

Famous Performances

Fiddler's Green has hosted many famous musicians and bands since it opened. It is a popular stop for major concert tours. Some of the well-known artists who have performed there include Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Green Day, Janet Jackson, KISS, and The Who.

The venue also hosts popular music festivals like Lollapalooza and the Mayhem Festival. These events bring many different bands and huge crowds to the amphitheatre for a day of music.
