How the Museum Started
The Museum of Outdoor Arts was started in 1981. It was founded by John W. Madden, Jr. and his daughter, Cynthia Madden Leitner. They wanted to create a place where art could be enjoyed outdoors.
Art in the Great Outdoors
For many years, MOA had both indoor and outdoor art exhibits. However, in 2022, the museum changed its main focus. It moved its headquarters to Marjorie Park at Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre. Now, MOA mainly focuses on outdoor art. It no longer has indoor galleries or public spaces.
The museum hosts many special events and outdoor art shows. It also puts on performances. These events show how important visual and performing arts are to community life.
Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre Connection
The Museum of Outdoor Arts actually owns Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre. This is a large outdoor music venue. MOA currently leases the space to a company called Anschutz Entertainment Group. This agreement started after a previous contract ended in 2013.
Special Art Pieces to See
The museum has many interesting art pieces in its collections. One notable sculpture is a limestone Medici lion. This type of lion sculpture is famous from Italian art history.
