Fiddletown is a quiet, countryside suburb located near Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. It's about 39 kilometres (24 miles) north of the main city area of Sydney. This area is part of the Hornsby Shire, which is like its local council. In 2021, about 259 people lived in Fiddletown.

What Fiddletown is Like

Fiddletown is known for its peaceful, countryside feel. You'll find many fruit orchards and large rural properties here. It's also home to Northholm Grammar School, a well-known school in the area.

The Story Behind the Name

Fiddletown got its name from two brothers, the Henstocks, and another young man named Small. They were some of the first people to settle in this area. Each of them owned a violin, which is sometimes called a "fiddle."

Long ago, people mined for sandstone in Fiddletown. Workers lived in caravans and started growing orange orchards. You can still find some of these old orange trees in the nearby Marramarra National Park.

Keeping Fiddletown Separate

In recent years, there was a discussion about whether Fiddletown should become part of the nearby suburb of Arcadia. However, the plan to combine them was not successful, and Fiddletown remains its own unique place.
