Figarden was once a small, unincorporated community in Fresno County, California. This means it was a settlement without its own local government, managed by the county instead. It was also known as Bullard and Fig Garden in the past.

Figarden is located about 6 miles (10 km) northwest of downtown Fresno. It sits at an elevation of 315 feet (96 meters) above sea level.

A Look Back at Figarden

Early Days and the Post Office

Figarden had its own post office for many years. It first opened in 1925 and operated until 1944. After a short break, it reopened in 1947 and served the community until 1951. This post office helped people send and receive mail in the area.

The Fig Capital

In the early 1900s, Figarden was famous for growing figs. Many different types of figs were first grown here. The area was perfect for fig trees, and they became a very important crop.

The community had several important places. There was a general store where people could buy everyday items. A garage helped with car repairs. There were also fruit packing plants, which prepared the figs for shipping. A boarding house offered a place to stay for travelers using the Santa Fe Railroad.

Figarden Today

By 1973, the nearby city of Fresno began to grow rapidly. This growth led to new buildings and homes being built in Figarden. Today, Figarden is no longer a separate small town. It has become a residential area within the larger city of northwest Fresno.
