Fillmore (sometimes spelled Filmore) is a small, unincorporated community in the Town of Farmington, Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. An unincorporated community is a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city, but it still has a name and a history. Fillmore was first settled in the early 1850s by people who came from a place called Saxony in Germany.
About Fillmore
Fillmore got its name from Millard Fillmore, who was the President of the United States when the community was being settled.
Historic Buildings
One important building in Fillmore is the Saxonia House. It was built in 1855 and used to be a brewery. This building was a popular gathering spot for local people. In 2006, the Saxonia House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as an important historical site.
In 1862, some of the German immigrants in Fillmore started a group called the Farmington Turnverein. A Turnverein was a German cultural association that promoted physical fitness and cultural activities. In 1868, they built the Fillmore Turner Hall. This building is still used today as a place for events and banquets.
